Shabash Phyllo
Automatic product compilation
Phyllo automates product compilation and pagination using XSL-FO.
Compilation
Simple layout rules can be reused. These can govern:
- recto/verso or recto/recto starts
- prelim pages
- advertisements
- end matter
These highly automated solutions are ideal for abstract sets compiled into conference proceedings: units can be ‘poured’ into a predefined mould.
Press efficiency
Phyllo helps reduce cost by alerting about even workings and colour placement:
- do pages total a multiple of 8, 16 or 32?
- will colour be printed on the minimum number of sheets?
Tables of contents and indexes
Phyllo can generate tables of contents by interrogating source XML chapters or articles from which, depending on the quality of the markup process, can be drawn:
- titles
- author names (full given names or initials as desired)
- subjects (which can be mapped to TOC headings)
- document types (e.g. ‘reviews’ before ‘original articles’)
Indexes are created using the same metadata. Rules can be applied to govern:
- placement of European family name prefixes (e.g. de Mot)
- placement of Asian family and given names
