Shabash Pavo

Vector graphics standardization

Pavo automatically standardizes vector graphics.

Print-standard EPS

Pavo converts various vector files, including WMF and PICT, into EPS for print production workflows. EPS files can inherit problems from the authoring environment. Key features include:

  • conversion of raw PostScript graphics into EPS
  • preview generation, simplifying problem identification during page make-up
  • bounding box cropping, ensuring image areas are bounded by the extremes of the actual graphic, not the size of page on which the original sat
  • font embedding
  • if the source files are unavailable, predefined font maps are used to help automate this task, with a provision for manual override.

Online standards

Vector files do not benefit from being converted into raster formats (e.g. GIF and JPEG) for online publishing: image resolution is set and zooming and print quality therefore poor.  Pavo vector can convert EPS into the following Web-enabled vector formats:

  • SVG (scaleable vector graphics)
  • Flash
  • ‘minimal’ PDF (i.e. without the Acrobat Reader wrapper)

Colour handling

Pavo checks to ensure:

  • RGB values are converted into CMYK for print (if necessary)
  • any process or CMYK values are converted into RGB for online formats.

Colour files can be automatically converted to black and white for print, subject to budgetary constraints, but preserved in colour for online presentation.

Integration

Pavo can be used with the other Shabash software for an integrated solution:
