Merops multipla

multiple sets of documents

Processing documents from a wide variety of sources, and making them consistent, is one of the challenges a publisher has to face. It is especially acute when the number of authors is in the hundreds or thousands, with little editorial control, as with multiple sets of abstracts for a conference. Merops multipla greatly simplifies and speeds up this process by automating the identification of abstract elements and applying stylistic consistency.

Consistency

Merops multipla uses Merops para as an engine to deliver highly structured and consistent documents. This can realize significant cost savings. Here are some key areas:

Names

Merops nominus identifies name components, so among the automatic corrections are: abbreviation of forenames to initials; swapping initials and surnames; deletion of qualifications.

Addresses

Merops locatio can be used to ensure the country names in each address, which may have been keyed by the author in their domestic language, are standardized.

Case handling

The ability to enforce consistent use of case in document titles and headings is especially crucial if this process could involve making thousands of manual changes. Merops casius can invoke a fully automated correction stage.

Graphics

Authors often embed charts and diagrams in their abstracts. Pavo extractum automatically extracts and processes these files into agreed standard formats (EPS for print, and SVG, PNG or JPG for online), while retaining the placement instructions in the source document.

Autopagination

Eos folio uses extensible style language (XSL) templates, including the formatting objects technology (XSL-FO) to output press-ready PostScript for print or Web pages for online publication. This highly automated solution is ideal for multiple abstract sets, where units of can be ‘poured’ into a predefined yet flexible mould.

Contents and
Index generator

Because the multiple document metadata as stored as XML, generating pages derived from them is straightforward. Fully linked Tables of Contents and Indexes can be an automatic by-product of the Eos approach.
